“Hi! Are you taking our pictures today??” – Calgary Family Photographer

He popped out of their vehicle and came  up to me with no hesitation!     “Hi!  Are you taking our pictures today?!?!”  he exclaims as he sticks out his hand for a introductory handshake.  I immediately knew I’d be having a lot of fun today …  and a decent workout following these two energetic brothers around in Fish Creek.  And I wasn’t incorrect in that assumption!   We went exploring  into the woods, running everywhere, throwing rocks by the river and yes, I had a good slug of water when I got back to my car!    Love it!!!

WANDER INTO MY FRIDAY – Calgary Child Photographer

Working in the ‘corporate’ world I remember Fridays often being a day that just got started a little later  (and ended a little earlier!!)  With my own business, I think the same tradition often works its way into the last official workday of the week.   It’s now 9:51 and I haven’t really gotten much done.  For no particular reason, I just seem to wander in my own world for a bit.  Taking a bit longer to get my earl grey tea ready.  Looking at images that are beyond my clients work.  Pictures I take for fun.  Surfing the web.   So I thought it would make that time feel a bit more justified if I actually posted something stemming from this Friday morning escape.  So today I’m introducing ‘Wander into my Friday’  .

This picture was taken at neighbourhood bbq last weekend.  A friend from Denmark was back in town and we had a get together in a neighbourhood backyard.  The new play structure back there was a huge hit with all the kids.  I scooted up there with them and this was an image that I just fell in love with.  You know my weakness for red hair and freckles and when this cutie gave me this look I knew we had captured a beautiful image.

Oh and look now it’s 10:04……

A BIT OF SILLY! – Calgary Child Photographer

This image is going to make me crack a smile every time I look at it.

TALK ABOUT CUTE!!! – Calgary Child Photographer

Ahhhhhh!!!!   So cute!  This gorgeous boy and adorable girl are the children of my hairdresser (who I absolutely adore).    We had such a blast at their home.  Mom and Dad have a great sense of style — just look at their stairwell!!  The little girl was pretty much smiles and energy the whole time and her brother took a bit more time to get into it.  One of my favourite parts of a shoot is when there is a shy little one who eventually warms up to me.  The first individual image of the little boy was very near the beginning of the shoot.  He was still wondering who I was and what I was doing there.  But fast forward 20 minutes later and he is full of smiles and giving me the best looks.  I just love that — not only because I have become a buddy, but also because it makes for a wonderful range of expressions in the full set of images.

The last set of images below were taken in the hair salon.   If you would like a hairdresser, and a fun and fabulous one at that, in the Marda Loop area, please contact Salon South Hill and set up an appointment.

WINNER ANNOUNCED!!

Wow!  It has been a CRAZY week.  Harold and I went to San Francisco last week and had the most fabulous time.  As always though, there is so much to do before and after a holiday to make up for the time you go away.  So I am catching up… thanks to everyone’s patience over the last few weeks as I work through a wonderful holiday season and post holiday season as well.

We have the winner of the $100 Garrison Girl gift certificate!!!    I asked Harold to choose a random number and he first chose a number that I had made a comment on!!!  Too funny!!  As tempted as I was, I didn’t think that would be very nice of me.   So a new number was chosen and the winner is …. Melissa T!!!    Melissa, we will get a hold of you so you can contact Jodi directly.

And for everyone else, if you’re looking for a small, deserved escape for yourself please contact Jodi through the Garrison Girl website.   Jodi is a complete sweetheart … one of those bright faces out there and I’m sure you will thoroughly enjoy your experience!

Here is one of the images I took down in San Francisco at a fabulous organic winery that we fell in love with, Retzlaff Winery.  We weren’t there for the grapes, but I still love how it looked with the sun coming through.  I’ll also keep you posted on some ideas we have with photo shoots in other areas.  One of the first stops may indeed be San Francisco in the fall.  If you know of anyone who lives down there who’d like to have a photo shoot done, just let me know!

TURNING 4 – Calgary Child and Family Photography

It’s been a very fun week.  Hailey turned 4.  Our little girl is four and I must admit there was a minute or two where I just sighed with emotion – it’s an amazing stage in their lives … she is independent in so many ways.  Choosing her outfits (last week she went to school in striped cozy pants and a bright flowery shirt with a mismatched colour underneath and a bandana), truly ‘getting’ our sense of humour and jokes, trying to figure life out as best she can (when she told me Grandma Barb, my mom, was going to come back and play with us really soon pretty much broke my heart), showing her younger brother the ropes (just this morning she got so excited for him when he put the puzzle piece in the right spot)  and just making her own decisions and choices.   She amazes me.  And she’s 4.  Ahhhhhhh.

So her party.  She and four friends went to see Princess and the Frog.  It was so adorable .. the five of them in the row in front of us looking so grown up.  Half of them in fairy princess outfits.   Yes, somehow one can look grown up in a fairy princess outfit!   We came back for cake and gingerbread house creations (made from graham crackers) and an hour of overwhelming chaos that more often that not accompanies a birthday party of kids that age.   I think I snapped about 5 photos as it was pretty busy, but wanted to share a couple!

And further below, my friend since grade 5.  Fawna.  Down-to-earth, go-to-her-with-anything, encouraging, motivating, uplifting, hilarious Fawna.  And her gorgeous family out near Longview.  After the mini-shoots that one Saturday we took on her property, I was very excited to get some images of her family and here are some we came up with!

ALL SMILES- Calgary Child Photographer

Another Longview mini-shoot!   My goodness, I love the Longview shoots so much – a gorgeous location and such fun families.  This is the third time I have seen James, once when he was brand, brand new another around a year and now him as a little boy… no more baby!    And he was all smiles!

This is one of my favourite EVER mom and child images.  There is just something about it that shouts love and fun and connection to me!  I hope you love it too, Lisa!  And dad, we’ll get you in the next shoot!!!

GOLDEN GATE

Harold and I had a fabulous 4 day getaway to San Francisco (Thanks Grandma Marlene for looking after H&R!) in August.   It is such a fabulous city to just walk and walk and walk around in.  So, we spent a couple hours just walking on and around the Golden Gate bridge and here are a couple photos from that.  I’m really happy with them as they were what I was envisioning as I took them.  With the flowers I wanted it to be bright and cheery.   As we had read lots about the building of it  – it was completed in 1937 -  I wanted to give it a dated look to imagine how an image of it may look like from back then.  I played lots in photoshop to create that look and was happy with the result— I was definitely smiling as the sailboat came into the image.  They had sailboats in 1937, wouldn’t you say!?!

Lots more shoots to come through!  It’s a busy fall.  September is booked up, so definitely contact me for an October session!

PERFECT WAY TO START THE MORNING…

at the Longview location shoot.  There are many more to come from that fabulous day over the next couple weeks.   There was such a fun range in ages … a 7 week old came to visit me, lots in the 1 year and 3 year range and then Shae, a high school student.  What fun photographing her — not only is she sweet, easy to talk to and friendly, she’s drop-dead gorgeous.   We had lots of fun and here are some of the results.

If you are interested in a shoot at this location, please email me  as I will be setting up a fall date based on the success of our first one!
