AND SHE’S OFF!!!! – Calgary Child Photographer

A huge accomplishment in any child’s life.  Biking… without training wheels!   So proud, Hailey Dale!

MY SWEETIES – Calgary Family Photography

Thought I would take an itsy bitsy teeny weeny bit of time to work on a couple photos of my own little sweeties!

WANDER INTO MY FRIDAY – Calgary Photographer

A couple weekends ago our family ventured to Okotoks to participate in the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.   This is the third time we have participated in the relay in memory of Mom who passed away from colon cancer in February 2008.   This year we had Mom’s sister and brother-in-law from Ontario with us, which was a real treat.  One beautiful part of the evening is when all the luminaries with messages to those who have won, succumbed to or still working on the fight with cancer.  Hailey and Reuben both drew a picture for Grandma Barb to put on the luminaries… Hailey was positive Grandma Barb would love her brightly coloured dinosaur and I fully agree.  I didn’t get any images of them lit up but did have my camera out when the kids were putting their pictures on the luminaries spread out around the track.

It’s definitely an emotionally filled evening but one that leaves you thankful for all the memories you’ve had with one so special in your life, and admittedly aching for more.

love you mom.

WANDER INTO MY FRIDAY #3

This week, I realized one of the proudest moments for a parent is when they witness the pride felt by their child.  Our little Hailey, on her last day of preschool, with such a proud look on her face.  She is accepting ”a star to wish upon, a pillowcase for sweet dreams and a book to always keep learning” that her teacher she adores gave each of the children to congratulate them on their upcoming move to kindergarten.

It was the preschool’s Over the Rainbow ceremony, where the preschool students move from the preschool side of the rainbow to the kindergarten side of the rainbow.  We were entertained with lots of singing and dancing to begin the special event and then each of the kids went up on the stage to shake hands and accept their gifts from their teacher.

Sweet Hailey, we couldn’t be more proud.  We wish you so many more proud and happy moments… with all our love, Mom and Dad.

WANDER INTO MY FRIDAY – #2 – Calgary Photographer

Here is my second Wander Into My Friday posting.   Today my ‘wandering’ got pushed back to the afternoon as I was busy with visiting clients in the morning.   It was a seamless delay though.. not forced in anyway, it still just happened!    Those Fridays… just get you sidetracked I tell you.

So, it’s always been a dream of mine to put together series of images that would be perfect for a line of greeting cards.   I see it happening soon!  Lots of that help is going to come from my macro lens.  A lens that lets you get up VERY close to your subject.  Perfect for eyelashes of sweet babies, but also ideal for flowers and bugs and fruit… some other subjects that I love photographing.   Here are a couple I took last summer when I first got my lens.    Let me know what you think!

HAILEY AND DAD’S CANOE – Calgary Child Photographer

On Saturday I drove home from a workshop with Shannon Sewell who came to Red Deer to meet with a number of different photographers.  What I took away most from our time with her was to pursue my vision, give myself permission to go my own way and recognize who I am and what I love.   As I drove back home through crazy snow (yes, crazy crazy big beautiful flakes of snow!!) I thought lots about what she said and started to make plans for some more ‘concept shoots’.   One idea I had was using the canoes my husband so loves to take out.  I see a little boy in jean overalls with a fishing rod made from a stick and string by his canoe, bandana is his backpocket…. oooh, I’m excited about it already.   This was in my mind, but when I woke up and saw the yellow canoe so bright against the snow I knew I had to try something right then.  So before the snow melted, I was able to encourage Hailey to come out into the backyard and I just went after a look I love … bright, happy and free.  Words I would use any day to describe our sweet little girl.

I will be putting out some casting calls in the future for some of the ideas I have, so if one of them connects with your children, be sure to let me know!

EASTER EGG HUNT – Calgary Child Photographer

Every year we are treated to an Easter egg hunt in our nearby park by a sweet neighbourhood family.  Families gather in the park, easter baskets in hand, anticipation high and yes, then they’re off!!   You may notice Hailey started with bunny ears, but she tossed them off after realizing they were impeding her progress of filling up her Easter egg basket.  Donations for a drink of lemondade at the lemonade stand were sent to Haiti.  All in all a perfect neighbourhood Easter Sunday afternoon (minus the resulting sugar overloads that come after!!!).  The kids love it sooooo much and here are some of the images I captured of Hailey and her buddy Zoe finding all their Easter loot!!!  Thanks again to the family who puts this on every year — it is an event enjoyed and appreciated by everyone!

RED, YELLOW & GREEN – Calgary Child Photographer

I was inspired to take a break from ‘work’ and focus on pictures of my own family.  Just this afternoon, we were out at the park enjoying this gorgeous day.   I looked at the sun coming through this tree at the park near our home and saw Reuben with his yellow boots, green jacket and red hair.  I knew I had to run home to get my camera to capture Reuben just enjoying his day.

A WARM WINTER WEEKEND!

One of our New Year’s resolutions is to get outdoors more with our family.    Harold and I are ‘outdoorsy’ people at heart and would love to spend more time in the fresh air than we have the past few years.   So we’re vowing that will change and the chinook this weekend made it an easy decision to head out.   We went out to Bragg Creek Provincial Park with our close friends.   Tobogganing, hot chocolate, a fire, marshmellows and +6 weather!!   A perfect day!  And what makes it even more perfect for me, is experimenting more with photography!  I was trying some different stuff with lots of these photos… using a flash which I hardly ever do.  But I wanted to expose for the background and light up the kids faces.  And I wanted sunbursts.  So I tried… they’re not technically perfect by any means, but I’m happy for my first official ‘try’.   Let me know your thoughts!!

ON THE PLANE – Calgary Child Photographer

Kids imagination.  One of the best things EVER!

Here Hailey and her friends have got onto the plane.  I think she’s waiting for me to come and offer her a drink and snack mix.   They are all off to Canada.  It may be a long trip — glad she’s got a couple books.
