HOW CUTE CAN THEY GET?? – Calgary Child Photographer

Seriously?  How cute can they get… not much more I swear.  And they have personalities to match that are just as sweet.  I’ll let the images speak for themselves this time as I can’t really use enough words to describe how absolutely adorable they are.   Thank you for such a fun session!!

Oh by the way, I have two openings for mini-sessions down in Longview on Sunday, October 25th.  We’ve had to change twice due to snow and rain on the original days we picked but for sure we’ll be lucky on the third try!!!  Just contact me if you’re interested.  It’s a 30 minute shoot and includes a 8×10 and two 5×7s in the $200 price.  AND it’s at an amazing location!!!

MY LITTLE GIRL – Calgary Child Photographer

My little girl.

I’ll repeat one of her favourites right now…  “I love you… this much” and stretch my arms out as far as they will go.  (Then she’ll get that look on her and look at me and go “I love you this… tiny much” and squish her fingers all together.)

COLOUR, COLOUR, COLOUR – Calgary Family Photography

There are so many rewarding aspects of my job.   The most important to me is that families will have images I’ve created together with them in their families for generations!   It’s like a post a couple days ago when I commented about a photo of my great buddy Jodi with her daughter — I can truly see that image in a frame on her daughter’s dresser for years to come — a picture she shows her own daughters.   To think of that just fills me with a sense of completeness.   Another rewarding aspect is just meeting these families.  I have taken photos of this next family four, maybe five, times!!  In fact, their daughter is the sweetheart in the pink sweater and skirt that is at the top of my blog here.   I wrote the mom letting her know her images will be on the blog soon and to thank her for her patience during a very busy season.   She wrote back simply stating ” We absolutely love working with you.  We couldn’t be more happy to wait because you are busy.  Love the succcess you are having and the fact that you are living a dream.”   Those who know me well, know I indeed have very weak tear ducts, but just reading that brought tears to my eyes.   Thank you for the super sweet words, Cynthia.   I had the hardest time just narrowing down the images to a few for your blog posting…I’m hoping it’s my turn to make you cry when I send you the slideshow!!

BROTHERS – Calgary Child and Family Photographer

It’s been a couple years since I last saw these two brothers.  The younger one was quite shy of the camera two years ago, but wow did that change for this time round!   He was posing for me and giving me the most beautiful looks with those gorgeous blue eyes of his.  And his older brother… still as cute as can be!

In these family photos, the boys were very intrigued by a big family of ladybugs — they were everywhere!

I think it’s often very fun to tell the story behind a photograph.  We really wanted some of the boys together.  Well those of you with two or more boys know that they are not always in the mood to cooperate for that ’sweet, huggy, I love you’ photograph.   So instead I got the boys to just go crazy and jump off the pillars they’re standing on here.  The trick?  They had to give each other THE GOOD LUCK HUG before they jumped as high as they could!   And I think the result is pretty sweet and huggy!blog_boys

MILLARVILLE – Calgary Child Photographer

It’s amazed me how many ‘cousin’ shoots I have done over the last few weeks.  Siblings are getting together to get gorgeous images of their children, the cousins, together.  What a fabulous memory for all of them as they grow up.  And of course a chance to get their own family images done at the same time!!  Admittedly, it can be a bit on the chaotic side bringing all the kids together but in the end it is always worth it.   With this family, we  met up at Grandma’s house in Millarville, another one of these locations which makes me just get all giggling inside with all the colour and texture available!   Jodi has been one of my closest friends all the way back in grade 6 when she first walked into Longview School up to our university roommmate years.  We then went through the corporate up and downs, created our gorgeous families and have evolved our lives into where we’re meant to be.   She is an amazing lady I am so proud of and it was a complete honour to take photos of her and her very fun family, who I’ve also had such fun knowing over many years.

A SHOOT WITH THE NEIGHBOURS – Calgary Family Photographer

I have often commented on the amazing neighbourhood we live in.  There are so many fabulous, fun, and caring families surrounding us.  This family is one we have had such a pleasure getting to know more over the past year.   So what a thrill when they asked me to take their family photos.  It was one of those beautiful September days we have fond memories of  and we were able to have a great time in our neighbourhood’s Sandy Beach area.  I so look forward to showing you all the others!!

FUN AT SPRUCE MEADOWS – Calgary Family Photographer

For this shoot, photos were taken in the late afternoon and by the time I turned off my computer that night, I had received this wonderful note from Gwen.  What fun it was to have a recap of their day… no question that ‘photo day’ can be a bit overwhelming at times.  I hope Gwen’s story makes everyone feel a bit better about how their preparations for photo day go!!!
Today was Family picture day.

Pictures were scheduled for 4:00 at Spruce Meadows.  The day was going good.  I had all outfits picked out, washed and ready to go.  At 2:11 after chatting back and forth on e-mail with Janet, our photographer, I mentioned that we were all going to be wearing black shirts and jeans.  She sends me a message back that started out with “you’re going to kill me but……”  Apparently my favourite color is not a great one for taking pictures in.  I did notice in all of Janet’s other clients’ pictures that everyone is wearing bright colors.  And I do agree it looks great but Janet hasn’t seen my closet.   [I have to inject a bit here and say my aim is to always have a conversation beforehand on what to wear so there's no situations like this that arise!]
Did I mention this was at 2:11?
It actually turned out to be a very hot day and since we moved our time up at the last minute, the sweaters I had bought the boys to wear were going to be too hot anyway. So I now had less than 2 hours to do my hair, make up, AND pick out something for ALL OF US to wear.  Not to mention get the boys dressed which is always a challenge.
I got them partially dressed and was just doing my “last minute and unexpected” ironing when I had my next burst or adrenalin.  I had left our gate open earlier in the day.  The one from the backyard to the front.  Jason had let Cooper out to the backyard when he got home.  Sometime after I got Cole dressed he wanted to go outside too (surprisingly he didn’t play in the dirt like he usually does).  At some point, Jason asked where Cooper was.  I realized right away that I had left the gate open!  This was all in the last hour before our appointment.

I kept my cool and hoped that he was still in the backyard.  Jason looked and he wasn’t – of course.  So I ran out the front door, down the driveway and called him.  Cole comes running around the corner from a few doors down yelling “I found Cooper!”.  I turned a little white and said to him “Cole…I didn’t even know you were missing!”.  AHHHHH
He was only outside for under 5 minutes but I had no idea he was in the front looking for Cooper – by himself!
I worked up a sweat but I did get us all ready.  Jason was working frantically on a kitchen design at 3:00 and finally walked out the door to meet us in the car at 3:45!  We looked a little hillbillyish but Janet didn’t laugh at us (or our shoes) when we got there so it was all good.

We met at Spruce Meadows.  Cole was shy at first but Janet had him following her within minutes.  She is incredible with kids.  He didn’t make her job easy though.  He’s not the easiest photo subject to work with.  In fact, he did not want to cooperate at all.  Conor on the other hand was keeping her busy with his “Take a picture of me!  Look at this funny face.”
She did somehow manage to get lots of great pictures all over the park.   She has a great eye for finding the best spots for good pictures.  It was a lot of fun.  She was balancing juice cups on her head. rolling on the ground, playing hide and seek, and at one point was even taking pictures while running backwards and holding the camera down at her knees while the boys tried to tackle her!  I wish I had taken my camera!

Cole was wearing a nice white and light blue t-shirt and found the perfect hill to slide down on his BELLY.  He did that for quite some time so I was truly expecting a grass stain or two but thankfully one did not appear.  Janet was going to be busy enough editing out the cookie crumbs on their faces and the water marks on Jason’s shirt.  :)
Because of Janet’s professionalism and excellent work with kids, we were done in an hour.  It went by fast and I know she took a lot of great pictures.  I can’t say enough good things about her.  I would recommend her to anyone for any kind of pictures.  And if she actually got a good one of Cole smiling with the rest of us I will nominate her for Photographer Of The Year!

Thanks Janet!blog2

Here’s Cole… coming after me!!!   I had to put this in as Gwen really, really wanted one of Cole running!chambers027-copy

And everyone knows how I think some of best photos are not necessarily having everyone look at the camera, but I hope this one works for you Gwen!  It may not be a full smile by Cole, but I think he looks pretty darn sweet!
