SHE’LL BE CLIMBING MOUNTAINS SOON – Calgary Newborn Photographer

It’s always fun to go to clients houses and bring their own loves (in addition to their family!!) into their shoot.  Dad is a big mountain climber and suggested incorporating his ropes and jacket into the shoot.  I think she looks as sweet as can be and will be out on the mountains with her mom and dad before they know it!!

HAILEY AND DAD’S CANOE – Calgary Child Photographer

On Saturday I drove home from a workshop with Shannon Sewell who came to Red Deer to meet with a number of different photographers.  What I took away most from our time with her was to pursue my vision, give myself permission to go my own way and recognize who I am and what I love.   As I drove back home through crazy snow (yes, crazy crazy big beautiful flakes of snow!!) I thought lots about what she said and started to make plans for some more ‘concept shoots’.   One idea I had was using the canoes my husband so loves to take out.  I see a little boy in jean overalls with a fishing rod made from a stick and string by his canoe, bandana is his backpocket…. oooh, I’m excited about it already.   This was in my mind, but when I woke up and saw the yellow canoe so bright against the snow I knew I had to try something right then.  So before the snow melted, I was able to encourage Hailey to come out into the backyard and I just went after a look I love … bright, happy and free.  Words I would use any day to describe our sweet little girl.

I will be putting out some casting calls in the future for some of the ideas I have, so if one of them connects with your children, be sure to let me know!

BEAUTIFUL NEW SISTER – Calgary Newborn Photographer

When I looked back at my last posting, I couldn’t believe it was almost two weeks ago!!  I wish I could have said I was enjoying daiquiris on a beach in the Caribbean but nope I was hard at work here in Calgary.   It has been a very, very exciting couple weeks for Visual Hues Photography and so I’ve dedicated lots of time to the business over that time period.

I am sooooo thrilled to share these images with you.  Remember the photo of this sweetheart on his bench… well, he has a sister to share the bench with now!   His sister was born at the very, very, very end of March so we were happy to incorporate some spring into her images.

WHAT A DOLL! – Calgary Child Photographer

Yes, this little girl is just the yummiest little thing around!   What a doll!   I have been excited for days just thinking about sharing her images here with you.   I have a lot of favourites as you can see… and I’m sure tomorrow I’ll look back and say ‘oooh, why didn’t I include THIS one’?   Such fun … it’s one of those moments where I can sigh with complete content and say I am one of the luckiest people – my family that I adore so much combined with an amazing job where I meet the best families ever.   Ahhhh, I might go upstairs and give them all a hug.   See you soon….

P.S.   Can’t you just imagine how M. feels in the last series…  waiting sooooooooooo patiently for her hot chocolate and then it arrives with whipped cream and all!!!!

EAU CLAIRE VISIT – Calgary Child Photographer

It was a very windy and very, very bright afternoon at Eau Claire and Prince’s Island for this family — an interesting mix for family photo day!!!   What is meant to be is meant to be, though, as I think we ended up with a beautiful variety of images.  Lots of colour around Eau Claire market of course and then a more natural setting at Prince’s Island.  This family lives right downtown, so it was the perfect location for them.  Their little girl is just a couple weeks older than Hailey and they love the same things, pink & purple, dancing, princesses…. you know the life of a 4 year girl!!   And in the early fall, she’ll be a big sister!!!  P — I’m so glad we were able to get together, finally (!!) …. hope you love them!

BEST OF FRIENDS – Calgary Family Photographer

Best of friends.  Loved the closeness between these two sisters.  I so enjoyed their sweet smiles, their giggles, their backyard, their playfulness, their puppy, their cats, and their hamster who even has the same name as my hamster did when I was their age.  Any guesses?  I’m feeling pretty generous right now – I’ll provide a fun prize for one lucky person who guesses!!!   You don’t even have to guess right!   Just put your guess in the comments and check back to see if you’re the winner!!

EASTER EGG HUNT – Calgary Child Photographer

Every year we are treated to an Easter egg hunt in our nearby park by a sweet neighbourhood family.  Families gather in the park, easter baskets in hand, anticipation high and yes, then they’re off!!   You may notice Hailey started with bunny ears, but she tossed them off after realizing they were impeding her progress of filling up her Easter egg basket.  Donations for a drink of lemondade at the lemonade stand were sent to Haiti.  All in all a perfect neighbourhood Easter Sunday afternoon (minus the resulting sugar overloads that come after!!!).  The kids love it sooooo much and here are some of the images I captured of Hailey and her buddy Zoe finding all their Easter loot!!!  Thanks again to the family who puts this on every year — it is an event enjoyed and appreciated by everyone!

HAIR, EYELASHES and SMILES – Calgary Newborn Photographer

One more precious newborn to celebrate!   She was the sweetest little baby to photograph — I don’t think there was one complaint from her.  Of course, the moment I saw her I knew we had to highlight her amazing head of hair and super long eyelashes!   I’m sure her lashes at 8 days are longer than mine at errrrrrrrr years.   I also love how we were able to incorporate Mom’s love of animal prints into one of the images and they’ll see some more smiles when they get their full gallery.
