FOR YOU, DENISE – Calgary Family Photographer

I don’t even know how to begin this blog post.   On one hand, I can talk about living every moment to its fullest.  Loving, forgiving, caring, and spending time with the ones that mean the most to you as sometimes life takes us on journeys we didn’t sign up for.  The brave and beautiful mom in these photographs lost her husband Rick suddenly during the Melissa’s road race last September.  She was pregnant with their third child and at the end of January a little baby girl arrived to greet her mom and two older brothers.  The range of emotions this family is dealing with is challenging to imagine for many of us, but I do know a new bundle of joy to cuddle, smile at and love can guide you through very difficult times.

On another angle, it could be about giving support and compassion.   A friend of mine knows very well about this road you must stumble down as she also lost her husband and the father of their three little boys tragically two and a half years ago.  We were scheduled to have a photo session only a week after Dave died.  Instead, we took them a few months after without Dave there.  And although there was certainly an empty space we could feel in the photographs, Cathy found the process healing.  Cathy approached me three weeks after this little baby was born and shared Denise’s story.   She wanted to offer the same sort of healing to Denise and her family.  She knew this little baby deserved to have photos and  joy and we are able to give these photos to Denise to help her through a challenging time.  I’m sure at one point in time Cathy never imagined being able to help another go through a loss like she is helping Denise, but I know how Denise appreciates it so much.  Life is about giving support to those who need and it is a very rewarding feeling that can fill you up than helping others.

Denise, your family is beautiful.  When you speak of Rick I can just feel the bond the two of you had.  I am happy you are able to look at your three children everyday and see Rick in each one of them. One day you will be able to look at these photographs and have a smile replace the emptiness that resides there now.   Rick is such a part of each one of them and you will always see a reflection of him and his values and love in your family.  At some point down the road that will fill you with more joy than sadness.  Enjoy your sweet new baby and your gorgeous boys.

NEW LITTLE GIRL! – Calgary Newborn Photographer

Way back when, the mom of these beautiful kids and I were neighbours.   Yes, we’re both from Longview.  Yeehaw!!  She was a few years younger than me which of course seems like a world of difference back then.  Now that we are grown up those years in between meld away into the background and we could have chatted for hours and hours.  I just love her attitude towards motherhood — she is so relaxed, so smiley, so easygoing for being the mom of a busy boy and  a week old little one.    Thank you for such a lovely day.  Hope you enjoy the images!!!

I just love how this first image speaks to “brand new”.

BEAUTIFUL FAMILY – Calgary Family Photographer

I have had the complete pleasure of watching this family grow since their daughter was three months old.  They are a family who is so gorgeous on the outside and absolutely beautiful on the inside.   Those who know me understand that I have very weak tear ducts and when I saw them all playing ring-around-the-rosy I was wiping away a couple of those tears that can fall when you see sheer love and happiness.  Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.  I couldn’t help but share quite a few of their images with you!

Also, this year I have a plan in place to offer lots of fun stuff to my blog and newsletter readers!  Take a look back at the blog in the next couple days.  There will be the first give-a-way of the year.. and it is something all of us will appreciate!

THIS IS WHY I LOVE WHAT I DO – Calgary Family Photographer

1384bwYou’ll hear photographers say it over and over and over.  We love our jobs.  We love what we do.  We love meeting and developing relationships with our clients.  I say it after every shoot.  Truly.  I’m sure my husband is tired of me just sighing at my computer as I look at all the gorgeous faces of my clients on my computer and say “Man, I love what I do”.

This is one of those times I said “Man, I REALLY, REALLY love what I do”    Gorgeous kids with huge personalities, a dad who I’m not sure what he was doing behind me but was definitely getting them to giggle non-stop, gorgeous light, a beautiful location, fun clothes and just a fun, fun family.  Friends I hadn’t seen in a long time and hope we can see more in the future.

This is an extra long post because they have been waiting oh so patiently.  I know Mom has been checking the blog everyday… well I hope you have a big smile on your face when you check it out this time, Trace!   Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to take photos of your gorgeous family!

9 KIDS CONES, PLEASE – calgary child photographer

I had envisioned this shot for a long time.   I wanted a shot of all the kids Reuben and Hailey play with on a daily basis.  These are the kids who, every night when we tell Hailey who loves her, are her friends that we talk about “and Thomas loves you and Katie loves you and Ashleigh loves you…..”.  I wanted to involve colour and ice cream and show off our neighbourhood.  So on a weekend when everyone was around, we all paraded over to My Favourite Ice Cream Shoppe and I ordered 9 kids cones.   And this is what we came up with.

What I love the most is each little one’s expression — it’s just so them.  Jonathan with his gorgeous blonde hair and his huge smile, Ashleigh with her princess skirt and her huge blue eyes,  Thomas and his “I’m up to something” look, Daniel with the best posture ever, Sydney on the other far end taking it all in, Hailey giggling behind her ice cream so happy to be with her buddies, Zoe with her inquisitive “what’s going on over there” look, Kate with her confident air, and Reuben covered head to toe.

Although I couldn’t see all their moms and dads behind me, I hear there were lots of smiles, laughs and even a couple teary eyes!

And yes, I’m thrilled to say you’ll see it as a 40×20 canvas up in My Favourite Ice Cream Shoppe at the end of September!  Go over and have a look and order a Pango Pango Mango (what Hailey has) while you’re at it!

I HAVE TO SHARE..

this image.  I am supposed to be doing other things which have fast-approaching deadlines but I absolutely, positively, definitely could not help myself when I saw this image from a recent shoot.  There are others I will share of this adorable girl and her equally adorable little sister in a few days time, but I could not stop myself from putting this one up right away.    Enjoy the rest of your week!
