DEAR FRIENDS – Calgary Family Photographer

On the weekend we had to say a teary farewell to a family we have grown so close to over the past three years.  It was that long ago that Hailey, just 16 months old, was playing in the ‘big park’ near our home and noticed a very cute blond boy by the monkey bars.  The appeal of someone her own size started a close friendship with a family that we are so grateful for.  They happened to have moved in just around the corner from us and we have spent countless hours and days and visits since then.  Our neighbourhood is truly an amazing one full of fun and caring families and the Horns fit in perfectly.

I remember at one point in my life being mad and upset at the number of goodbyes I’d have to say to those I had developed deep friendships with.   Over the years though I’ve realized how lucky are we to have this goodbyes that are this hard to do.  It means the time spent together meant something to us, it made us care, have fun, trust, hope and support and  in some way made us better people.

A couple weeks before our friends left we went for a final photo shoot .   It was definitely a wintry Canadian day and although we were freezing… for this I am thankful.  We know winters are a big part of Canada and I think they will treasure these images enjoying the white stuff that visits us often.   It must have been the quickest family photo shoot ever!  I think we were in and out within 25 minutes as poor Daniel was getting very chilly!  In true bright and beautiful Danish colours, we were able to capture what I considered the traits I treasure most in this family.    Friendly, real, happy, loving.    Simple adjectives but speak volumes.

TALK ABOUT CUTE!!! – Calgary Child Photographer

Ahhhhhh!!!!   So cute!  This gorgeous boy and adorable girl are the children of my hairdresser (who I absolutely adore).    We had such a blast at their home.  Mom and Dad have a great sense of style — just look at their stairwell!!  The little girl was pretty much smiles and energy the whole time and her brother took a bit more time to get into it.  One of my favourite parts of a shoot is when there is a shy little one who eventually warms up to me.  The first individual image of the little boy was very near the beginning of the shoot.  He was still wondering who I was and what I was doing there.  But fast forward 20 minutes later and he is full of smiles and giving me the best looks.  I just love that — not only because I have become a buddy, but also because it makes for a wonderful range of expressions in the full set of images.

The last set of images below were taken in the hair salon.   If you would like a hairdresser, and a fun and fabulous one at that, in the Marda Loop area, please contact Salon South Hill and set up an appointment.

COUSINS – Calgary Child Photographer

Remember this sweet little newborn from late last year?   Well, he brought his two adorable cousins to his next photo shoot.   The goal?  To get a gorgeous shot of three cousins together.  It’s not quite as easy as it sounds with a typical busy boy, a little girl not quite sitting up on her own yet and a 2 month newborn!   In the end we decided to go with a shot from overhead and here is the result!!    The three moms were sisters and we were able to capture lots of mom and child moments too.

BUSY BOY! – Calgary Child Photography

As a mom of a 22 month old boy, I definitely know how busy these little characters can be.  Callum had me on my toes, no question about it.   The first image is the first one I took of the day and then it seemed that more often than not I was looking at his back then his front!  So I definitely had to include one of these images to share my experience with you!  But so is the life of a busy little boy!!

THE WARREN FAMILY – Calgary Family Photography

Looking at these images you probably wouldn’t believe this was a November day in Calgary!   Considering it is minus 15 Celsius right now, it’s even harder to remember back to the mild November we had.  What a treat to photograph this family!   I loved the relationship between all the kids — the big kids just loved their younger brother and the adoration in return was undeniable.  I cannot to share the whole gallery with them but here’s a start!!  Enjoy!

SWEET BROTHERS – Calgary Child Photography

December!!   Ahhhhhh, did someone say it’s December?!?!   Maybe if I just keep my calendar on the November page, I can avoid having to get on all the December-stuff I have to do.   There’s not really that much that goes on this month, is there?   One thing I know for sure is that there is an almost 4 year old little girl in our home who is very excited about her birthday next week.  I better get on that!   Yikes.  Anyway, let’s talk about these gorgeous brothers I had the pleasure of shooting last month.  (last month.. that’s October, right?!?!?!)   There’s quite a few images in this blog post, but you can see why I would want to show off this cuties!!!   Once again, I have fallen in love.  Aren’t they adorable?   We had such fun staying indoors for the first half of the shoot and then venturing outside to nearby Sandy Beach.

AT HOME — Calgary Family Photographer

What a treat photographing this sweetie pie at his home.  His mom owns and runs the fabulous Herringer Kiss Gallery on 11th Avenue SW.  The art in there home is stunning of course and I was so thrilled to be using it as a backdrop to lots of our images.   I love his gorgeous hair against the blues.

I also included one that he took of Mom and Dad — I really like his perspective and definitely think he’s got potential!!  Hmmmmm, I do need an assistant… I may have to sign him up in 20 years or so!   And I love the series of him with the espresso!   Can’t you just hear him yelling out the order in the last shot of the series there??

REAL LIFE! – Calgary Family Photographer

I had soooooooooo much fun at this family’s home.  The moment I entered their home, I felt so welcome.   The mom of these three stunning children is one of those people who you can instantly tell her heart is as big as her smile.   Fabulous conversation led us to making different connections and I left feeling like I had met a new friend.  On the shoot side of things, well admittedly things were a bit on the crazy side and I absolutely love that the craziness, and beauty, of this family could be captured!  I just adore the series of Mom with the kids… hands up for those who can relate to the feeling these images evoke!    I super enjoy these types of lifestyle shoots; pajamas and all!

THE BUSI FAMILY – Calgary Family Photography

Look at these darling kids!  My gosh, they were so fun, so interactive, so polite, so sweet.  I could have taken them home with me, I swear.  There are gorgeous images of them on their own, but I really wanted to share the ones of them together as I just love them!   And really, how often do you get a brother and sister this age working so well together???  And a cool note about the jump shot… Dad’s home town is actually the name of the town on the memorial block — Boulogne.   It’s so cool when those little details are brought into family shoots.  Thank you for such a fun session!

GORGEOUS CURLS – Calgary Child and Family Photographer

Hello!     I haven’t put up a blog in a bit, but wow has it ever been a crazy week.   There will be a series of blog posts, even tonight, as I get caught up and get everyone’s galleries out to them.  Thank you, everyone, for your patience!

This family… oh, this family.  So gorgeous, inside gorgeous and outside gorgeous.  I am lucky enough to have them live in my neighbourhood and ever since I saw their family, I had hoped one day I would be able to capture their family, and their beautiful curls,  in images.   I was so thrilled when they signed up for the Longview fall mini-shoots.    I envisioned the image of the two boys running in the field long before the actual shoot.  One day I saw Nadia walking with the boys down the street and they had the superhero capes on.  They were already booked for the Longview shoot and I could just see them wandering through the long grasses in their superhero kingdom.  So I asked them if they would bring them down to the shoot. It worked out perfectly and I absolutely love it!   The finish on it is a bit different than I usually do, but I think it works out perfectly.  Let me know what you think!

I can’t wait to show you the rest, guys!!
